Vietjet will pay you $8,500 if you catch coronavirus on one of its flights.

Vietnamese airline Vietjet will pay customers up to $8,500 if they catch the coronavirus while flying with them.

The low cost carrier said it would be making the payouts as part of its new ‘Sky Covid Care Insurance’ policy, which only applies to travellers flying on domestic services until June 30.

The cover is provided free of charge regardless of the passenger’s age or nationality.

“With the insurance, passengers are eligible for insurance coverage and benefits from Vietjet within 30 days starting at 00:01 of the flight date, regardless of how passengers are infected with the disease,” the airline said.

To qualify, passengers must provide “all information in accordance with Vietjet’s terms and conditions” when buying the tickets — including the full name with ID as proof, date of birth, phone number and email address.

The customer must also “comply with all regulations on disease prevention and control of Vietjet, the Ministry of Health and authorities,” it added.

The terms explicitly state that passengers suffering from epilepsy, mental illness or suicidal behaviour are not eligible.

Vietjet claims it has set aside tens of billions of Vietnamese dong (VND) ready to pay out to customers.

As of Thursday morning, Vietnam had 148 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with zero deaths.
